Members of the board of directors of MPI-Oregon Chapter have an ardent interest in the association's purposes and also have a sense of stewardship for the organization. They understand and identify with the central purpose, goals, vision, and values of the organization.
Duties include attendance at monthly board and chapter meetings, advocating for the chapter, serving as a liaison to committee chairs, and serving as a role model for other chapter members. Board members are fiscally responsible for the chapter's well being and set priorities that assure the long-range survival of the organization.
The Member Care Committee has a number of responsibilities and functions listed below. The Committee meets monthly immediately following the Chapter Meeting.

The Member Recruitment Committee is responsible for membership recruitment; maintaining current membership additions and deletions for Chapter; answering questions about Meeting Professionals International and the Oregon Chapter and serving as liaison with MPI Headquarters on membership issues.

Every June our Chapter recognizes members nominated for five awards. The total membership is eligible to nominate a member for the Mentor Award, Rising Star Award, Torchlight Award, Supplier of the Year, and Planner of the Year. The nominations are open in the 1st calendar quarter of the new year and the committee makes decisions after the nominees submit their applications for their nominated award. Two other awards are also given, the Dian J. Lindsay, President's Award, given at the discretion of the current Chapter President and the Silver Platter Award going to the hosting monthly facility that scores the highest on the meeting evaluation sheets.

The 2005/2006 scholarship committee consists of 13 active MPI members (planners and suppliers). The scholarship committee has the overall responsibility for the coordination of the continuing education merit scholarship program. The committee acts as the panel of judges for scoring the scholarship applicants who are interested in receiving financial assistance in attending the National MPI Educational Conferences (PEC/WEC), the Annual Cascadia Conference or obtaining their Industry Designation CMM/CMP. This year the scholarship committee will be awarding over $4000.00 in merit scholarships

The CMP Study Group Committee is working with MPI members who will be taking the CMP exam in January 2006 or July 2006. We are meeting October 18, November 3, November 15 and December 1. We meet in person but also offer the opportunity to conference call for those who are unable to attend in person. The January dates will be determined within the next month.
We will be scheduling a second class for those taking their CMP exams in July. Please let us know if you are interested.
Multicultural Initiative

The Multicultural Initiative Committee (www.multicultural.mpiweb.org) focuses on educating our members about the strategic benefits of conducting multicultural business opportunities in an evolving global economy.
The primary objectives are:
- To help members better understand multicultural communities that are under represented in the meetings industry (African-American/Black, Asian, Hispanic/Latino and Native American).
- Collect and maintain data about our chapter's needs to effectively address multicultural markets.
- Build and strengthen relationships with multicultural communities, including leaders, organizations, businesses and individuals to raise awareness of the meetings industry and to demonstrate our commitment to serve these key communities.
- Foster inclusiveness among local chapter members to increase and retain membership.
- Provide multicultural education and information to members through ongoing multicultural efforts.
- Expand personal and professional development opportunities for members, in order to further grow their business.

The Cascadia Liaison Committee is the eyes and ears for the non-hosting chapter, and they work to facilitate the inter state agreement. The Cascadia Liaison Committee participates in conference calls and facilitates communication between the two chapters.

The website committee focuses on managing MPI's website services including hosting and design support. The committee is responsible for conveying the chapter's needs to the design firm, ensuring that chapter communications are posted in a timely manner, and promoting the website to chapter members. The website committee works to ensure that the website is fresh and informative.

The Publications committee is responsible for putting together the chapter's monthly newsletter. Each month we gather updates from all the committees, search for interesting and educational articles and report through pictures our prior events. We also have reoccurring pieces like Ask a CMP, Where in the World is the Oracle?, Events Calendar, Thank You's, Spotlight Member Interview and New Member interview and more. Our mission is to keep the chapter informed of our members, the events and activities going on. Our goal is to make the monthly newsletter an educational, informative and fun resource for the Oregon MPI chapter.

The 50/50 Raffle Committee sells raffle tickets during the monthly meetings. At the end of each meeting the committee gives away money and prizes. MPI gives 50% of the money collected to the chapter and 50% to one of our lucky winners.
